Resume: Shia LaBeouf

This round sees the Shia LaBeouf return to work for the studio for the first time since Femme Fatale in Season 3. After a tumultuous run in Hollywood the last several years, LaBeouf found a couple of strong starring roles for the studio in its first season of existence. After six seasons away from the studio, LaBeouf has returned to work for the studio, this time starring in the political satire from director Oliver Stone and writer Jacob Jones, Happy Nuke Year. In this latest edition of Resume, we will look at the filmography of this once rising star....

Season 1

LaBeouf scored rave reviews for his performance as alleged JFK assassin Lee Harvey Oswald in David Fincher and Dwight Gallo's adaptation of Don DeLillo's biographical novel. Many believe LaBeouf should have been nominated for a Golden Reel Award for his performance, but the film only ended up with one nomination: Best Screenplay.

The Associate

Budget: $49,000,000
Domestic Box Office: $52,190,002
Foreign Box Office: $51,704,270
Total Profit: -$38,462,497

Following seeing the dailies of his performance in Libra, studio president Phil Dolan pushed hard for LaBeouf to be cast in the lead role in this John Grisham adaptation (over Miles Teller and Zac Efron). This led to a switch of director, going from Gavin O'Connor (who was set on Teller in the role) to James Ponsoldt. The film received solid notices from critics but bombed at the box office.

LaBeouf was once again lauded for his performance in a film, this time as Bob Dylan in the film which detailed the key relationships of the life of troubled model Edie Sedgwick. Some were surprised once again that he wasn't nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his performance, with Jared Leto's flashier role as Andy Warhol gaining a nomination instead.

Season 9
Happy Nuke Year

Budget: $40,000,000
Domestic Box Office: $23,091,445

LaBeouf re-teamed with his Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps director for this off-kilter look at an the political dealings surrounding an impending nuclear catastrophe. It was LaBeouf's first film for the studio in 8 seasons, and his first starring role for LRF since Season 1. He plays a young senator in the film trying to do his part to stave off nuclear war with North Korea. While the film was a nuclear bomb at the box office, critics singled out LaBeouf's lead performance as a bright spot of the film.

Up Next: After this season, LaBeouf will have a bit of a break from the studio. He will reportedly appear in an undisclosed film from Mo Buck's Writers Association in Season 11, but after that nothing is set in stone.
