The Roundup with Jeff Stockton (Season 9 Round 5)

The streak of flops finally came to an end thanks to Halo 4, and just in the nick of time as the next round could be a risky one. For the fifth time this season, here's The Roundup...
3. Roy Horne
With the announcement of Roy Horne taking over as writer on God of War II, the film immediately became one to look forward to. Horne's work on films like The Tower, Perfect Blue and even Gargoyles (which we all know I had problems with) shows that he is a solid hire for the film. I look forward to seeing how the series goes on from here.

2. Spark of Madness
This was just an all around great movie anchored by a career-best performance from Steve Carell. There were some obvious marketing issues, but the film itself was an A-grade Hollywood drama.

1. Halo 4
A great blockbuster. The box office performance of this one proves once and for all that the Halo series belongs in the conversation with Booster Gold and Splinter Cell as one of the studio's finest franchises.
3. Benedict Cumberbatch
I just don't think he added that much to his voice/motion capture performance to make for a memorable villain in Halo 4. The film might be the best of the series overall, but it was definitely weak on the villain side of things, with The Didact being only mildly interesting, and mostly unoriginal.

2. Evan Rachel Wood
She's a fine dramatic actress, but she felt too serious for the lead role in Rachel Rising. It doesn't help that I tend to get annoyed at seeing too much of her on the big screen (hearing her, really).

1. Spark of Madness
This was a film that deserved to be seen by more. The marketing decision to keep names like Bill Murray and Jim Carrey a surprise to the audience clearly backfired in a big way, likely contributing to the massive losses accrued by the film. Whoever came up with that idea, sure made a bone-headed decision on that one.
