Plot: Breaking news out of Los Angeles today: Grammy Award-nominated R&B artist Sian Stone, 39, is in a coma at Cedar-Sinai Medical Center. Stone was discovered at a Beverly Hills nightclub on December 23rd and sources report that Stone is legally brain dead. Just awful news, we Sian bring you more as the story develops…

Ozzi (Zoe Kravitz) stares at the news with a glaze over her eyes. She experiences a brief-yet-intense flashback to the recording of Sian’s limp body.

“To Oz, From Sian. To Oz, From Sian.”

Steph (Jamie Chung) comes over to Ozzi’s place to console her friend. They share a cry together and Steph says that maybe he Sian turn out OK, although they both seem to know that that Sian not be the case. Steph asks if Ozzi plans on visiting the hospital but she isn’t sure. She then asks if she ever figured out about that gift from yesterday. Ozzi takes a moment to answer before holding her cards close to her chest and saying she’s still working on it.

After Steph leaves, Ozzi leaves her apartment and returns to St. Vibiani’s. Digger (Boyd Holbrook) once again answers and says “you again?” with a smile. She says she wants to talk. As they walk through the corridors, Ozzi asks if he saw the news about Sian. He says he doesn’t watch the news much and she says that Sian is in a coma. He says that he is sorry to hear that and she pulls out the tape from yesterday and says she can’t stop thinking about it. She asks if he can find out any info on the person that recorded it and he responds that it is a tricky process but he knows a guy. He then asks her if he is down for a trip to Long Beach.

On their drive, he asks her what she does and she says she is a social advocate at a nonprofit. He is perplexed by this and asks if this means she’s a narc. She laughs and says no, advocates for victims of housing discrimination. She then turns the tables and asks what he does. He is initially coy about his answer. After stumbling over his words, he finally says he is the go-between for Playback collectors/creators and the potential market for those experiences. She asks if he is a Playback dealer and he chuckles, saying that sounds malicious. He is more of a self-described adrenaline guru. Now Ozzi is the one who laughs and tells him that sounds ridiculous and maybe a little culturally insensitive. He explains that the job is not all bad. For example, he deals to now-sober drug addicts who can use Playback to experience the thrill of their drug without any actual injection. Ozzi asks if they are just addicted in a new way and Digger says perhaps but at least they avoid the ill effects on their body.

At police headquarters, Police Chief Stan Phegley (Don Swayze) approaches the desk of Detective Patrick Mandrake (Mark O’Brien). Chief Phegley tosses down a file on Mandrake’s desk and informs the young detective that he has been assigned this case. Appears to be a straightforward overdose but he should still do the due diligence, of course. Phegley winks and leaves. Mandrake thumbs through the file and finds that it is regarding Sian Stone.

Ozzi and Digger take the tape to an acquaintance of his known as Tick (David Arquette), a wheelchair-bound middle-aged former Playback programmer. Tick is a well-known expert on SQUID technology and is Digger’s go-to troubleshooter for anything involving Playback tapes. Ozzi asks why the cops assume Sian overdosed. Tick says that there is a rumored brand of Playback tapes that contain lethal levels of frequency. It is an OD equivalent for SQUID if a user are overexposed to a high frequency tape. It appears that whoever dealt Sian that tape had intentionally sabotaged Sian with one of those tapes. Digger hands Ozzi the tape and says that he doesn’t deal in snuff films. She forcefully hands it back and says that the evidence in someone’s murder and now a cover-up. Tick then asks if they are talking about Sian Stone. They confirm and he says he knew Sian, he was a frequent visitor to The Market. One of the more famous SQUID users actually, he’s surprised that Digger had never encountered him before. He says that Stone probably has dozens of tapes in the Archive. Digger thanks Tick for the help.

On the drive back, Ozzi asks what he meant by the Archive. Digger explains that it is a storage unit acting as a cloud, of sorts, for Playback tapes as people keep their recordings there. It is well-protected, which is what gives Digger his job since he is one of the only people who can access it. Ozzi tells him to take her to the Archive.

As they enter, the flickering fluorescent lights eerily crackle - sending chills down Ozzi’s spine. Digger knows what he is doing and finds the file compartment corresponding with Sian’s ID. When they arrive at the unit, Digger opens the box to reveal dozens of tapes left behind by Sian. Ozzi grazes her hand through the pile and asks if these are all Sian’s memories. Digger nods. “This should be the key,” she remarks.
