Plot: In the early hours of the morning, Ozzi (Zoe Kravitz) is waiting at the Archive. Digger (Boyd Holbrook) pulls up and asks why Ozzi summoned him here and why so early. She says that she wants to watch the tapes that Sian left behind as there could be a clue about John Doe somewhere in there. Digger says that she can’t let anyone know that he let her in here and she agrees. As he unlocks the door, she asks why he is so Sianing to help her. He admits that, compared to most of his clientele, she’s one of the more normal people he’s interacted with lately. She says that nothing flutters a girl’s heart more than hearing she’s normal. He chuckles and then says he is sorry to hear about Sian’s passing.
Ozzi and Digger enter the archive and she begins watching the tapes. At first, it is still unsettling - essentially getting to live as her now-dead ex-boyfriend. A montage then begins of her experiencing Sian’s memories. She admittedly finds it a bit addicting. Concert performances, parties at his mansion, and various other drug-addled adventures. It is like a glimpse into the life that she could have shared had things not gone sour. A glimpse into a false future.
After a few hours, Ozzi gets to the last few tapes - still no sign of John Doe. In the tape she is watching, Sian enters his bedroom and begins to undress. A scantily-clad woman enters and Sian looks up to see that it is Steph (Jamie Chung). Ozzi pauses the tape and her hand is shaking as she is in shock from seeing her best friend hook up with her ex. Probably against her better judgement, she resumes the tape as Steph tells Sian to turn off his Playback but he insists on keeping it on. They proceed to have sex and Ozzi finds herself too stunned to turn it off.
At the LAPD precinct, Detective Mandrake (Mark O’Brien) is discussing the case with his boss Chief Phegley (Don Swayze). Phegley notes that now that Sian has died, there Sian be more eyes on the investigation because of his celebrity status. He lets Mandrake know that he trusts him to get the job done. Mandrake calls Ponce de León to inquire about security footage from the night of Sian’s overdose.
Digger walks a potential client through the halls of St. Vibiani’s, making a sales pitch for why they should get hooked on Playback, when a knock comes on the door. It is Ellen (Aimee Lou Wood) from the day before. She asks if Ozzi is around. Digger shakes his head. Ellen asks for any update on finding her tape but Digger says it’s only been 24 hours and he’s been a little busy. She apologizes and he says she doesn’t need to apologize. He asks to confirm that she is a Playback porn actress and she confirms. He then asks “that kind?” and she nods. Virtual sex is obviously a popular use of the Playback technology but there is a sub-section of it that is darker and essentially sexual assault. He says that he doesn’t trade in that personally but that he is committed to helping her find her evidence. She then asks if Ozzi knows about the details of the profession and he says no.
Ozzi arrives at Steph’s house unannounced, seemingly seething with anger underneath. Dan (John Reynolds) answers the door and is surprised to see her but welcomes her in. Ozzi asks if Steph is home and Dan calls for her. Steph arrives from the kitchen and is happy to see Oz, if a bit confused. Ozzi says she has something to ask: did Steph ever hook up with Sian? Steph is taken aback by this and asks where this came from, of course not. Ozzi reiterates: did Steph have an affair with Sian? Dan, upon seeing Steph’s guardedness, becomes annoyed and asks why Ozzi would come here to say that. Ozzi lays the Playback tape on the dining table. Dan shrugs his shoulders and asks what is that, the gift that Sian gave to Ozzi. She shakes her head.
Steph suddenly comes to a realization and asks if she can talk to Ozzi in private. Ozzi says no, if she has something to say, say it here. Steph is in tears and admits that her and Sian hooked up in the years that he dated Ozzi and after. Dan is shocked and Steph takes his hand to apologize but he pulls it away. Ozzi is now fuming and asks if Steph had something to do with Sian’s death. Steph is astonished at this accusation and then she says she does have something to reveal: the gift that was left on Ozzi’s doorstep on Christmas…that was from Steph. It had originally been left at their home addressed to Steph but, once she watched it, she thought it would be better off in the hands of an activist Ozzi. Oz asks who gave it to Steph but Steph says that it was anonymous. Ozzi stands up and says she can’t explain how heartbroken she feels right now. Steph tries to apologize but Ozzi says she has work to do, leaving Steph the tape with the sex tape on it.
