Reaction: Completely changing the genre, style and nearly the entire cast of a film in a series rarely works out well, as the box office turn-out of this one shows.

"Okay good news, Mark Rylance shows why he's an actor who should be continually hired. He's the saving grace along with Davis & Schnapp. Otherwise, this film suffers from the typical prequel & brother rivalry cruse most films like the suffering. Been There-Done-That just suffocates this movie to the point you're puzzled by the ending. I want more films in the Police Story but maybe, just maybe... We require more than the vibes of the former LRF NOW Original Film feel." - Shi Wu Westcott, Inverse

"What does this prequel have to do with the Police Story franchise? Basically nothing. Why did the filmmakers choose to connect it to that franchise? I have no clue. As a martial arts coming of age drama, it actually works. But as a prequel/continuation of the LRF Police Story series, it fails completely." - Brenton Smalls, Playboy

"This film just feels completely ill-conceived. Writer/Director Meirad Tako has removed everything that worked well in his three prior Police Story films. In this prequel, we have no Jackie Chan, no over-the-top action, no colorful villains, etc. Instead we have a slow drama about two brothers raised to be rivals in a case of bait and switch. It fails to excite and entertain like the prior three films - and that is a major issue." - Dave Manning, Ridgefield Press

Rated PG-13 for intense martial arts violence and language
