It’s a special day for the Oakwood kids. They’re going on a field trip to the park with Mr. Roberts (Robert Sweatmon) and Ms. Lloyd (Erica Rhodes). As the class arrives at the park, the kids all look around, excited to see all the amazing sights and sounds. One thing especially catches Kairi’s (Sasaki Miyu) eye. A group of ducks swimming on the pond. Ms. Lloyd and Mr. Roberts explain that it’s called a raft of ducks, sort of like a family. Seeing the ducks reminds Mr. Roberts of a song about six little ducks and he along with the others begins to sing.
After the song, Mr. Roberts and Ms. Lloyd gather their groups. Marcie (Miriam Spumpkin), Pablo (Ravi Cabot-Conyers), DJ (Brayden Newbern and Kairi will be spending the day with Mr. Roberts while Gabi (Alejandra Howard), Matthew (Roger Dale Taylor), Anna (Mykal-Michelle Harris), and Barney (Dean Wendt) get to be with Ms. Lloyd. When Barney comes to life, it leads to a funny moment where Ms. Lloyd and Barney meet for the first time, Ms. Lloyd being amused and amazed to find that he comes to life whenever people use their imagination.
Barney isn’t alone as Baby Bop (Julie Johnson) comes by, accompanied by her brother B.J. (Patty Wirtz). Like with Kairi, Baby Bop too is interested in the family of ducks but becomes confused when Ms. Lloyd mentions that they’re a raft or a team of ducks. Barney explains that every animal is a part of a different type of family, sort of like how people have their own families. To show this, Barney whisks them away to a farm where they see some of the many animals that live there, including a herd of cattle, a team of horses, a drift of pigs, and a clowder of cats. During this time, Mr. Roberts and his group also learn about the various ways animal families spend time together and how similar their lives are. As Ms. Lloyd’s group heads back from the farm, Baby Bop realizes that families are everywhere and can come from both animals and humans. At the end of the day though, Barney finds that the best kind of family is the one that cares for each other, sharing their day with the people they love.
As the kids say goodbye to Barney, Matthew asks Ms. Lloyd not to tell Mr. Roberts about him as they don’t know how he’d respond. Ms. Lloyd says that the secret is safe with her. When Mr. Roberts’ group returns, Ms. Lloyd does a great job covering up what they really did, using typical park events while mixing in what they learned as a ploy. Happy to see that everyone has learned so much, Mr. Roberts has one more surprise for everyone. Free pizza at the pavilion! Excited, all the kids head off to the pavilion to enjoy their lunch and the rest of the day.
