The Roundup with Jeff Stockton (Season 24 Round 5)

We have now reached the midway point of Season 24. Here's The Roundup....

3. Second Half of Season 24
I think there are some exciting films due out soon that are worth looking forward to. Outside of a few strongpoints, the first half of the season wasn't too strong.

2. Birds of Prey
Birds of Prey didn't try to do more than tell an exciting, entertaining story. It mostly succeeded. The complete lack of character development/growth turned me off a bit, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't thoroughly entertained throughout.

1. Shoe Dog
Shoe Dog was a decent biopic. I don't feel like it really delved into Phil Knight's psyche and personality enough for my liking, but the events pictured were a fairly entertaining glimpse at shoe history - and Andrew Garfield is good as always (and wisely avoids Phil Knight's famously bad haircut if the poster is any indication).

3. First Half of Season 24
The first half of the season was a mixed bag at best. Like I said above though, I think there are some good movies on the immediate horizon in the second half of the season.

2. The Vacationers
This film should have been a simple drama/comedy focused on a family on a vacation. But there ended up being way too many subplots that really don't matter at the end of the day.

1. Novels
There was an interesting bit of information regarding the recent failures of novel adaptations by the studio that really makes me wonder what the problem is really. Are writers simply choosing the wrong novels to try to adapt or is there a bigger problem?
