Reaction: This was probably not the outcome writer Rosie JoLove was looking for from this film. Novel adaptations have had a rough time at the box office in recent seasons with the last five failing at the box office.

"I didn’t really get into this film. I didn’t find it funny nor intriguing. Jodie Foster was a solid choice for director, she lends a steady hand behind the camera and the actors do what they can with the script provided. I feel as if it was simply a nothing film, not terrible but not good either, some may get a kick out of it however." - Datreon Epps, Variety

"The Vacationers is a small story with the length of an epic. There was no reason for a simple film about a vacation to be nearly 3 hours long. There were glimpses of something good here and there, but there's a lot of fluff and padding to get through to find it." - Samuel O'Brien, Sight and Sound Magazine

"For such a small story, there was way too much going on and a few too many characters that were hard to care about. I liked Kyle Chandler and Jennifer Connelly in the lead roles, but the rest of the cast doesn't really leave much of a mark with their characters. I feel like the filmmakers could have shaved off over an hour of the film's running time and removed some of the multitude of subplots and wound up with a much tighter, effective film - rather than a bloated, ineffective drama/comedy." - Leslie Vandergort, Minneapolis Star Tribune

Rated R for language and sexual content/nudity
