It’s another fine afternoon in recess and Matthew (Roger Dale Floyd) and DJ (Brayden Newbern) are busy playing on the swings. They both agree Such a fun day like this deserves to be spent with a good friend, like each other! When Barney (Dean Wendt) comes to life by the picnic table, He joins in the festivities!
All seems to be normal when the three pick up a heated argument. Before they can rush over to the scene, a fuming Marcie (Miriam Spumpkin) storms over to Matthew, declaring that she’ll never speak to Kairi (Sasaki Miyu) again. While Matthew tends to his little sister, DJ and Barney rush over to the scene of the argument where they find Kairi crying by a tree.
After Barney, DJ and Matthew manage to calm the two sides down, they explain their sides of the story. Kairi claims that Marcie lost a toy she borrowed from her, but Marcie says that she didn’t mean to lose it, admitting that she snapped at Kairi when she accused her of losing it. Barney tries to mediate a ceasefire between the two, but Kairi refuses to talk to Marcie and vice-versa.
With recess over, Barney is forced to stay outside while the kids go to class. Still wanting to help his friends however, he sneaks inside the school and enters the hallway, finding BJ (Patty Wirtz) and Baby Bop (Julie Johnson) arguing among themselves. As it turns out, they heard about the fight between Kairi and Marcie and have taken different sides, BJ on Kairi’s side and Baby Bop on Marcie’s. Barney however feels that both sides can be right and hopes that Matthew and DJ can solve things.
Unfortunately in Mr. Roberts’s (Robert Sweatmon) class, Matthew and DJ come no closer to solving the problem. Not even a song by Mr. Roberts can help. It only gets worse when snack time comes and DJ realizes that he accidentally ate all the carrot sticks he was going to share with Matthew. This causes Matthew to get mad at DJ. It’s around this time Anna (Mykal-Michelle Harris) arrives at school.
When Barney explains the crisis to Anna, Anna asks Barney why he can’t come in class. Given the predicament regarding Mr. Roberts never seeing Barney in this state, the kids find it too risky. Anna however has a plan and she enters class. She tries to talk to Kairi and Marcie, listening to both sides before organizing a search. After some time, Anna manages to find Kairi’s toy in Marcie’s cubby. As it turned out, Marcie forgot to take it home!
Overjoyed to have her toy back, Kairi thanks Anna for her help and apologizes to Marcie for getting mad at her. Marcie forgives her and apologizes for losing her toy. Seeing Marcie and Kairi forgive each other warms Matthew and DJ’s hearts and they make amends too.
After school, the gang meet up with an ecstatic Barney, Baby Bop and BJ and play with Kairi’s toy, a teddy bear! With Kairi and Marcie now friends again, Barney reminds us that though friends may have their fights, when we take the time to understand each other, we can make up and be friends again. When everyone says their goodbyes, Marcie and Kairi agree to have a tea party at Marcie’s house, inviting Kairi’s teddy bear as a guest.
