The Roundup with Jeff Stockton (Season 24 Round 7)

The dicey box office issues continued this round, although things were once again saved by one big hit. Here's The Roundup....

3. Rest of Season
After a rough stretch at the box office that has been bailed out by a couple of hits, I have higher expectations for the rest of the season thanks to superhero films like Daredevil and Blue Beetle: Legacy, highly anticipated genre films like Red Sonja: Blood + Bone and Friday the 13th, and Monaco from Scorsese and Chad Taylor.

2. Queen Margot
Definitely more complicated and overblown than necessary, but it was still a decent film from a story point.

1. X-Men
Garland and Gall have crafted another solid X-Men film, which unlike the Fox efforts, are true ensemble films. It was also nice to see Gambit join the team and the return of Wolverine.

3. Rest of the Season
While I went over some films I expect to do well in the rest of the season, there are also a few I expect to do poorly at the box office. There is another novel adaptation, Akin, that does not sound like a box office favorite, a niche-sounding Alex Conn original, and the strange and difficult to market Abe Lincoln wrestling film.

2. Box Office
Once again a lone hit saves the round's box office for the studio. Last round had Pocahontas carrying the load, and this round had X-Men: Sinister.

1. Novel Adaptations
Run was a perfect example of what the recent novel adaptations have been doing wrong. Writers are being too precious with the details of these books, resulting in poorly-paced, overly-long adaptations.
